THE JOHN AND SARAH SHOW

(Music fades) “Now ladies and gentlemen, direct from the campaign circuit and their triumph at The Republican National Convention, It’s the John and Sarah Show. (Cue Applause) Please welcome our hosts Senator John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin. (Cue wild applause) Sarah, warm cute and cuddly warms up the crowd. Her mentor watches with approval, as she delivers homespun wisdom from Alaska’s version of Lake Woebegone. The land of lipstick wearing Pit Bulls, where the Bullwinkle the Moose lives in fear. Ah shucks! Ain’t she sweet? Ain’t she nice? Look her over once or twice, as she introduces the star of the show, John McCain. As the Senator answers questions from the audience, his running mate plays his “amen chorus” batting here eyelashes fawning over her hero. If she were male it would be seen as “Brown-nosing”, however women “Flirt”.

I’ve seen this show before. It’s Regis and Kelly. Regis Philbin and Kelley Rippa are the perfect television couple. The older mature male and his spunky, much younger, female sidekick. Think Ted Baxter and Mary Richards from the “Mary Tyler Moore Show” she had spunk.

This format has been a staple of television talk shows. Johnny Carson and Ed McMann perfected it on the “Tonight Show”. Regis learned the art of brown noising when he played second banana to Joey Bishop in his effort to unseat the “King of late night television.” He taught the technique to his female partners, Kathy Lee, and Kelley.

You see this pairing each night on your local news, the older gray-haired male anchor and the young, cute female co-anchor. People, Linda Ellerby characterized as having “Blow dried brains”. It’s been this way since women forced their way into the anchor seat in the 1960’s. Think about it. Have you ever seen an older female anchor and her younger male sidekick? I haven’t, at least not on local news.

In no way does this social pairing denigrate the female’s intelligence. Mary Richards was sharp as a tack, while Ted Baxter’s brain was located where he could sit on it. It’s a frame left from our hunter-gather past. Men are attracted to women who can pass along their bloodline. Young fertile women. Women are more practical they seek good provider-defenders, usually older successful men.

Shakespeare offered a seventeen-year-old, nude Cleopatra who was delivered, rolled in a rug, to her conqueror, the middle aged, Julius Caesar. “The Misfits” paired a sixty-year old Clark Gable with a thirty-six year old Marylyn Monroe. Recently Harrison Ford and Anne Hecshe in “Six Days Seven Nights” had questions raised about their age difference. Despite the vast gains made by women in society we still view the older male, younger female pairing as natural. Political Correctness is always checked by genetics.

This life view explains why senator Hillary Clinton was not picked as the Democratic Party’s Vice-presidential nominee. She is no Kelley Rippa. Clinton could never fill the role of a sidekick. She is too driven for that part and if she tried it would look phony. A young and an old male is acceptable. An old male and a young female are acceptable. A young male and an older female Is just not acceptable. It jolts our genetic frame, just as an older woman at the top of the ticket with a younger male would. That would rule out a Clinton-Obama ticket, had that ever been an option.
